{"id":4413,"date":"2009-03-29T23:18:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-30T05:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/03\/auto-failures-the-next-big-economic-crisis\/"},"modified":"2009-03-29T23:18:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-30T05:18:00","slug":"auto-failures-the-next-big-economic-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/03\/auto-failures-the-next-big-economic-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Auto failures: The next big economic crisis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve shared more than once in the last few months, most recently in <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/02\/obamas-spending-spree-wont-fix-this.html\">this column<\/a>, my doubts about the attempts by the Bush and now Obama administrations to fix this economic mess with big-dollar bailouts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Regardless, I\u2019m cringing tonight seeing the headlines: The White House has determined that neither Chrysler nor General Motors is viable, and neither deserves anymore bailout cash, at least as currently structured. Check it out from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0309\/20642.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Politico<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090330\/ap_on_go_pr_wh\/obama_autos\" target=\"_blank\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">What does this have to do with New Mexico politics? It\u2019s becoming increasingly likely that at least one major automaker &#8212; maybe more than one &#8212; is heading for bankruptcy, soon. That\u2019s jobs across the state and nation. Dealerships would close, auto part makers would go under, etc. <span style=\"\"> <\/span>And that would only exacerbate the economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">New Mexico, like every other state, would be affected.
