Meanwhile, a similar bill is getting a hearing this morning in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/committeedisplay.aspx?CommitteeCode=SRC\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Rules Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/_session.aspx?chamber=H&amp;legtype=B&amp;legno=%20393&amp;year=09\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 393<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HCERV\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, is being considered by the committee right now. The meeting isn\u2019t being webcast, so I can\u2019t tell you what\u2019s happening there, but I can tell you that at least one other journalist is attending the meeting. When or if the bill is brought up for debate is solely in the hands of Majority Leader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SSANC\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Sanchez<\/a>, D-Belen, who opposes opening conference committees to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cervantes\u2019 bill is currently scheduled to head to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/committeedisplay.aspx?CommitteeCode=SJC\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Judiciary Committee<\/a> &#8212; if the Rules Committee OKs it &#8212; before it could reach the Senate floor.
