That prompted a series of jokes on the Senate floor today, the <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/21974\/nm-senators-react-to-the-new-web-cam\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Independent<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis does create the impression out there that all senators are bald,\u201d said Albuquerque Democratic Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/LCS\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SORTI\" target=\"_blank\">Gerald Ortiz y Pino<\/a>, whose head appears shiny in the video.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SFISC\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Fischmann<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, got in on the joking with this quip: <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019ve heard that there\u2019s already a raging discussion about how much advertising space might cost on top of Ortiz y Pino\u2019s head,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve already put together a subsidiary to sell advertising there for $2.10 per minute\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBut senators\u2019 campaign messages, Fischmann said, could get even better exposure if planted on his own, bigger, balder noggin,\u201d the NMI article states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy head, it\u2019s closer to the camera and (the ads) will be bigger and they\u2019ll cost $3.50,\u201d Fischmann said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There\u2019s more from the senators, so you should check out <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/21974\/nm-senators-react-to-the-new-web-cam\" target=\"_blank\">the NMI article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">Journalists more critical<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Journalists were harsher in their criticism of the lone camera.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cNow, I don&#8217;t know what you were hoping to see, but I was kind of hoping to see more than a handful of (the backs of) senators. A pan across the room every once and a while would have been nice as well, maybe a zoom in on the person talking,\u201d The Santa Fe New Mexican\u2019s Kate Nash wrote on <a href=\"http:\/\/greenchilechatter.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/senate-webcast-up-and-running.html\" target=\"_blank\">her blog<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t want to sound unappreciative or anything, because this is a step in the right direction, but the camera really doesn\u2019t show everything it could have, and should have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Santa Fe Reporter\u2019s Dave Maass was especially harsh on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfreeper.com\/2009\/03\/16\/wheres-sapien-i-cant-see-sapien\/\" target=\"_blank\">his newspaper\u2019s blog<\/a>. He latched on to the fact that it was rookie Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SSAPI\" target=\"_blank\">John Sapien<\/a>, D-Corrales, who introduced the amendment to the webcasting resolution <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/senate-oks-video-webcasting-will-begin.html\">cutting the cameras<\/a> from three to one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Maass took issue with a news release sent out by Senate Democrats claiming that Sapien \u201chelps to pass Web streaming in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBull-hooey!\u201d Maass wrote. \u201cSapien had five amendments lined up to force a 2\/3 supermajority vote on a simple bill to use the technology the Senate had already purchased to Web cast the Senate floor session for all the state to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSapien\u2019s seat isn\u2019t even in the frigging frame! \u2026 Citizens, rise-up: You\u2019ve been scammed,\u201d he wrote. \u201c\u2026 New headline: SENATOR SAPIEN HELPS TO PASS SELF-SERVING CRAPPY WEB STREAMING IN THE SENATE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cPS. Don\u2019t you love that \u2018not an official record\u2019 disclosure. This is because New Mexico Senators believe they are masters of space and time.
