A news release sent out by the governor\u2019s office this evening provides a clue about one of the big reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The release was about Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> meeting this afternoon with more than 100 New Mexicans to discuss legislation during meetings that each lasted 3-5 minutes. People traveled from as far away as Mesquite (located in southern Do\u00f1a Ana County) for the meetings, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Not surprisingly, the most popular issue brought up was the bill the Legislature has approved that would <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/21720\/one-man-will-decide-fate-of-capital-punishment-in-nm\" target=\"_blank\">repeal the death penalty<\/a>, the release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">But what else was brought up? According to the release, a number of other issues, \u201cincluding a state acquisition of the College of Santa Fe, PERA retirement contributions and animal cruelty legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ethics reform? Not mentioned in the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So I e-mailed Richardson spokeswoman Caitlin Kelleher. \u201cNot ethics reform, eh?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere were some &#8212; I just highlighted the most popular,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to know why it\u2019s so difficult to pass any ethics-reform measure in Santa Fe?
