{"id":4315,"date":"2009-03-05T20:45:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-06T02:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/03\/guv-wants-more-than-temporary-ethics-reform\/"},"modified":"2009-03-05T20:45:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-06T02:45:00","slug":"guv-wants-more-than-temporary-ethics-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/03\/guv-wants-more-than-temporary-ethics-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"Guv wants more than &#8216;temporary ethics reform&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SbCOfqNtcLI\/AAAAAAAALCA\/pCa-7iPvFlg\/s1600-h\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 160px;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SbCOfqNtcLI\/AAAAAAAALCA\/pCa-7iPvFlg\/s200\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309900635228696754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>In response to a Senate committee\u2019s approval earlier this week of a campaign contribution limits bill that would sunset <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/rules-committee-oks-contribution-limits.html\">two years after it takes effect<\/a>, Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> called today for the approval of permanent ethics reform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m pleased that this issue is moving forward, but we don\u2019t need temporary ethics reform,\u201d Richardson said in a news release. \u201cI urge legislators get me a bill with a firm and permanent cap on campaign contributions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The bill, unanimously approved by members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/committeedisplay.aspx?CommitteeCode=SRC\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Rules Committee<\/a>, would limit contributions from individuals to $2,300, from political committees to $5,000 and from political parties to $10,000 per calendar year. It would take effect on Jan. 1, 2011 and includes a sunset clause of Jan. 1, 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SLOPE\" target=\"_blank\">Linda Lopez<\/a>, D-Albuquerque and the committee\u2019s chairwoman, says that would give the state a chance to review the limits. But Richardson isn\u2019t buying it. He called on lawmakers to remove the sunset clause and said he met with Lopez on Wednesday to push for the approval of additional ethics reform proposals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am hopeful that Sen.
