My first reporting that pushed government transparency involved uncovering violations of the state Open Meetings Act by the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education a dozen years ago. I\u2019ve been fighting to shine more light on government ever since.<\/p>\n
Journalism should also be transparent. In an era of shrinking newsroom budgets we have to think creatively about how to fund our work. Disclosing funding sources is critical to our credibility.<\/p>\n
NMPolitics.net listed donors<\/a> in the past.<\/p>\n The re-launched site will do the same. We\u2019ll publish a list of individual contributors that, thus far, includes donations ranging from $3 to $1,000.<\/p>\n We\u2019re also selling sponsorships for those who contribute $1,000 or more. Sponsorships will come with promotional benefits such as, at certain dollar amounts, ads and special pages labeled as sponsored advertising content.<\/p>\n When NMPolitics.net goes live around June 1, the site will also tell you who its sponsors are and how much they contributed. As has been the case in the past, sponsors and donors will have no control over editorial content.<\/p>\n The list of people and organizations that fund NMPolitics.net has always been ideologically and politically diverse.
