Some of you have asked thoughtful questions and raised interesting points when talking with me about restarting NMPolitics.net and donating to help fund the site. I thought it might be helpful to share some longer posts that give you a better sense of my plans. Today I want to discuss community.<\/p>\n
As I\u2019ve been saying, a big part of my vision is doing journalism that engages. Journalism can help people make sense of the news, rather than just regurgitating talking points. It can give voice to people\u00a0through conversations online and in person. It can represent\u00a0the diversity of our communities and invite\u00a0into\u00a0the public conversation people\u00a0power tends to ignore.<\/p>\n
I want to build a safe and engaging space for all people, from across the ideological spectrum, to participate in the conversation about our society. Some have brought up my personal ideology, and seem to make an assumption that I\u2019m trying to build a community of people who share my views. Nothing could be further from the truth.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m best when I\u2019m being challenged. I believe that\u2019s true of all of us. When we do the hard work of being bold about sharing our beliefs and listening to and understanding others\u2019 beliefs, when we work to find common ground and build bridges instead of walls, we find ways forward.<\/p>\n
Finding common ground is one of my deepest passions. Creating a community that helps people work toward that goal is my core vision for NMPolitics.net.<\/p>\n
