{"id":4170,"date":"2009-01-25T23:46:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-26T05:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/01\/articles-delve-further-into-gripgate\/"},"modified":"2009-01-25T23:46:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-26T05:46:00","slug":"articles-delve-further-into-gripgate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/01\/articles-delve-further-into-gripgate\/","title":{"rendered":"Articles delve further into GRIPgate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Several news articles from the last few days shed new light on the pay-to-play allegations swirling around Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The first, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601103&amp;sid=aqJ8hPYPRwpI&amp;refer=us\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg<\/a>, reveals that the federal grand jury investigating the allegations issued a subpoena on Sept. 22 of last year to the governor\u2019s office seeking communication between the governor\u2019s office and companies tied to the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s no surprise that the subpoena was issued. What is interesting is that it was done in September. It wasn\u2019t until December that <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/grand-jury-probes-richardson-donors.html\">Bloomberg became the first<\/a> to report publicly that what had initially been an FBI investigation had grown into a more serious grand jury probe, but the new article reveals that the grand jury had already been investigating for months at that point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The second article, from <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/NM-posts-collateral-for-deals-apf-14120394.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Associated Press<\/a>, reports that New Mexico has had to come up with $16 million in collateral to cover a drop in value of the \u201ccomplex financial transactions at the heart of\u201d the federal probe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe unexpected need to post the money has the New Mexico Finance Authority questioning whether it received adequate guidance from outside advisers in assembling a complex transportation bond financing plan in 2004 for the Richardson administration,\u201d the article states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Among those advisers? CDR Financial Products, the company at the center of the grand jury probe, of course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The last is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/25105650state01-25-09.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal article<\/a> that probes the lost luster surrounding the complex financial transactions that were once touted, according to the newspaper, as \u201ca state-of-the-art financing tool that would help New Mexico stretch its highway improvement dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each article is worth a read when you get a chance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several news articles from the last few days shed new light on the pay-to-play allegations swirling around Gov.
