{"id":41266,"date":"2012-07-05T06:43:16","date_gmt":"2012-07-05T12:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=41266"},"modified":"2012-07-05T06:43:47","modified_gmt":"2012-07-05T12:43:47","slug":"article-examines-legislators-personal-e-mail-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/07\/article-examines-legislators-personal-e-mail-use\/","title":{"rendered":"Article examines legislators\u2019 personal e-mail use"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->The Santa Fe Reporter is out with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfreporter.com\/santafe\/blog-3619-ipra-wars.html\" target=\"_blank\">a new article<\/a> that examines the debate over whether e-mails sent to and from state legislators\u2019 personal e-mail accounts that discuss public business are public record.<\/p>\n<p>The article quotes state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HCHAL\" target=\"_blank\">Eleanor Chavez<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, as saying legislators are in a different category than the governor, who has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/06\/e-mail-mess-looks-a-lot-like-richardson-scandals\/\" target=\"_blank\">under fire<\/a> because she and other members of her administration were using personal e-mail accounts to discuss public business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a citizen legislature, not state employees,\u201d the Reporter quoted Chavez as saying.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m quoted in the article disagreeing with Chavez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey get per deim, they get retirement benefits \u2014 they get compensation for their job.
