{"id":41241,"date":"2012-07-02T10:55:14","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T16:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=41241"},"modified":"2012-07-02T10:55:14","modified_gmt":"2012-07-02T16:55:14","slug":"sunland-park-looks-to-close-budget-gap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/07\/sunland-park-looks-to-close-budget-gap\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunland Park looks to close budget gap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Sunland Park, which has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/tag\/sunland-park\/\" target=\"_blank\">plagued by scandal<\/a>, is making some tough fiscal decisions after being faced with the choice of doing it themselves or having the state do it for them.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/main\/2012\/06\/30\/news\/sunland-park-working-to-slash-budget-gap.html\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTo close the projected deficit, the council is considering: generating about $200,000 more through a property tax increase; nearly doubling development fees to bring in $75,000; selling a recently bought garbage truck to eliminate $52,000 in debt; and ending $63,000 in payments for local access to a bus service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe council is also considering replacing municipal garbage pickup, which operates at a $190,000 annual loss, with a private contractor who would be charged a franchise fee.
