The newest attention comes in a profile in The Santa Fe New Mexican and a 30-minute interview with Gallup radio reporter John McBreen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The New Mexican\u2019s article by reporter Kate Nash, which you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Local%20News\/-We-ve-changed-New-Mexico-\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, recounts many of the larger projects in which Domenici has been instrumental.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSo which of the thousands of projects represents the legacy of the state\u2019s senior senator?\u201d the article asks. \u201cIt\u2019s too hard to pick just one thing, he said. But if he had to, it might be science &#8212; a common theme behind the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, a uranium-enrichment project and others he listed when asked in late October.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cPut them together there, maybe my legacy is science, that I love science, I love big science when we can make it work and apply it,\u201d the newspaper quoted Domenici as saying. \u201cDuring my lifetime, my time here, we\u2019ve changed New Mexico. It\u2019s moving in that direction where it could be a high-tech, high science state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, in the radio interview, which you can hear <a href=\"http:\/\/src.senate.gov\/public\/_files\/radio\/domenici12_04_08.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, topics of discussion included more about Domenici\u2019s legacy, his health, and the challenges facing the state\u2019s new congressional delegation and President-elect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And Domenici talked about <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a>, who Obama has nominated to be commerce secretary. The senator said he wasn\u2019t surprised by the appointment once it became clear that Obama was going to make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> his secretary of state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI knew that he was going to put Bill in his cabinet one way or another,\u201d Domenici said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the end of the year and his political career approaches, U.S. Sen.
