He was 72.<\/p>\n<p>Evans leaves behind his wife Anna Mae, three children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He and his wife would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with Sadness, but Peace in Christ, that I announce the death and passing of my Dad D. Kent Evans at about 1:30 this morning,\u201d Evans\u2019 son D.K. Evans announced early this afternoon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=418132638210115&amp;id=100000401473875\" target=\"_blank\">on Facebook<\/a>. \u201cHe is not in worldly pain now, but in the hands of the Lord and all the family that have gone before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D.K. Evans said a memorial would be held on June 23 to celebrate his father\u2019s life and his parents\u2019 life together.<\/p>\n<p>It was only days before \u2013 on Friday \u2013 that D.K. Evans announced on Facebook that his father <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=415595518463827&amp;id=100000401473875\" target=\"_blank\">had acute leukemia<\/a>. He wrote that Kent Evans was \u201cin much pain and the prognosis is not good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kent Evans, who served on the county commission from 2000-2008, was the Republican candidate for the District 5 seat on the Do\u00f1a Ana County Board of Commissioners this year, so the GOP will appoint someone to take his place at a later date.<\/p>\n<p><em>A prior version of this posting incorrectly stated that Evans was 68 and had three great-grandchildren.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner Kent Evans, who was a candidate for the job once again this year, died today after a battle with leukemia.
