Please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that,\u201d McCain said. \u201cIt\u2019s natural tonight to feel some disappointment, but tomorrow, we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. We fought as hard as we could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">McCain said he doesn\u2019t know what more he could have done to win the race and he wishes the outcome had been different. But he had kind words for his opponent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI wish Godspeed to the man who was my former opponent, and who will be my president,\u201d McCain said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Many in the crowd listening to McCain\u2019s speech weren\u2019t happy with his gracious tone toward his opponent. The boos were overpowering, for example, when McCain congratulated Obama and his \u201cold friend\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/learn\/meet_joe.php\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Biden<\/a>, Obama\u2019s running mate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John McCain said it\u2019s time for Americans to unite during the speech he gave conceding the race to Barack Obama moments ago. \u201cWhatever our differences, we are fellow Americans.
