Open Meetings Act and plans to reapply for the appointment. Here\u2019s part of his statement, published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/las_cruces-news\/ci_20499618\/sunland-mayor-steps-down-hopes-reappointment\" target=\"_blank\">by the Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe city has the option to appeal the opinion and ask for a stay, but that is not the right thing to do for the people of Sunland Park. As such, I will accept the conclusion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/04\/ag-tells-sunland-park-to-fix-open-meetings-act-violation\/\" target=\"_blank\">(attorney general) opinion<\/a> and relinquish my title and the ability to perform in the official capacity as the mayor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The city council has not yet scheduled such a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the lawyer for Jorge I. Angulo, who\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/04\/salinas-two-others-face-new-fraud-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\">charged in the fraud case<\/a> in Sunland Park, says the case against his client is weak.
