{"id":3934,"date":"2008-11-02T22:36:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-03T04:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/11\/clark-asks-obama-supporters-to-help-get-out-the-vote\/"},"modified":"2008-11-02T22:36:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-03T04:36:00","slug":"clark-asks-obama-supporters-to-help-get-out-the-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/11\/clark-asks-obama-supporters-to-help-get-out-the-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Clark asks Obama supporters to help get out the vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SQ5-qotmKrI\/AAAAAAAAJPU\/LSBicm65McE\/s1600-h\/Clark1x.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SQ5-qotmKrI\/AAAAAAAAJPU\/LSBicm65McE\/s1600\/Clark1x.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264284285390957234\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Former Democratic presidential candidate and retired Gen. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wesley_Clark\" target=\"_blank\">Wesley Clark<\/a> urged a group of about 100 supporters of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> at a rally today in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to help convince people to vote on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI don\u2019t trust the polls, and there\u2019s no room for complacency,\u201d <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> said. \u201c\u2026 In good elections in this country, 60 to 65 percent of Americans vote. Can\u2019t we do better than that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Clark, speaking at a VFW post on the city\u2019s <st1:place st=\"on\">East Mesa<\/st1:place>, hardly mentioned Obama\u2019s opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnmccain.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John McCain<\/a>, but was highly critical of the Bush Administration during his speech in arguing that Obama will bring change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">During Bush\u2019s presidency, <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> said, a pattern has emerged: Warnings of a coming disaster are ignored, a disaster strikes, the federal government is slow to respond, and, at the end of Bush\u2019s term, the disaster lingers. He said there have been four such catastrophes: the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, Hurricane Katrina and the current economic collapse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEight years. Four problems. Enough is enough,\u201d <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> told the enthusiastic group. \u201cBarack Obama is going to bring us some new ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The rally wasn\u2019t designed to convince undecided voters. <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> asked who among those in attendance had already voted, and just about everyone raised their hands. But <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> asked those people to take on another mission. He asked them to talk to their friends and family members about voting for Obama, and he asked them to call Obama\u2019s campaign and volunteer to make phone calls and help out in other ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m here to ask you, in these last hours, as this election closes, that you be part of the change,\u201d <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> said. \u201c\u2026 We\u2019ve got to get out the vote. You know, elections are decided on turnout, on effort, on passion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Clark urged people to support the entire slate of Democratic candidates appearing on the ballot on the East Mesa, and specifically mentioned state Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/natecote.com\/elect\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nate Cote<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeffsteinborn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Steinborn<\/a> and state Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevefornmsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Fischmann<\/a>, who each spoke to the group before <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> took the stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> spoke about two issues: the economy and taking care of veterans. He said the era of trickle-down economics is over and it\u2019s time \u201cfor government to lead.\u201d Obama, he said, has the vision to make that happen and the ability to \u201cpull <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">America<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> back together again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And he cited Obama\u2019s statement that the government has \u201ca sacred trust\u201d with its veterans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe need to live up to that,\u201d <st1:place st=\"on\">Clark<\/st1:place> said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Democratic presidential candidate and retired Gen.
