Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garyjohnson2012.com\/front\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Johnson<\/a> \u201cappears to have locked up the Libertarian Party\u2019s nomination for president,\u201d the Las Cruces Sun-News is reporting.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/las_cruces-news\/ci_20479072\/former-nm-governor-headed-toward-libertarian-presidential-nomination\" target=\"_blank\">the article<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJohnson last year began his run for the White House as a Republican. Instead, he will carry the banner of a 41-year-old third party that has never won a state in a presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumerous Libertarians said in interviews that Johnson will steamroll to the nomination May 5 at the Libertarian Party convention in Las Vegas, Nev.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018He\u2019s going to be nominated on the first ballot, probably with 90 percent of the vote. Then he\u2019s going to fall flat on his face, just as Bob Barr did,\u2019 said Bill Still of Virginia, also a Libertarian candidate for president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark Hinkle, chairman of the Libertarian Party, said he had done enough of a sampling to project Johnson as the nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018He seems to overwhelmingly be the choice in delegate counts and straw polls,\u2019 Hinkle said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHinkle, who lives in California, said he gives Johnson a chance to be competitive in the presidential race in one state \u2014 New Mexico.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maybe not. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/pdf\/2011\/PPP_Release_NM_425.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">survey of New Mexico voters<\/a> from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling conducted last week has Johnson at 15 percent in New Mexico to Mitt Romney\u2019s 35 percent and Barack Obama\u2019s 48 percent. The survey of 526 people has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former N.M. Gov.
