That was noteworthy because, earlier in the week, Perea <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/04\/meet-sunland-parks-new-mayor-elect\/\" target=\"_blank\">told a reporter<\/a> that he claimed no party affiliation and was an \u201cindependent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perea told NMPolitics.net he was asked about his political affiliation in front of a number of reporters just after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/04\/sunland-park-gets-a-new-mayor\/\" target=\"_blank\">being appointed<\/a> by the city council.
