{"id":3903,"date":"2008-10-27T15:58:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-27T21:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/is-county-commission-candidate-lying-about-his-past\/"},"modified":"2008-10-27T15:58:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-27T21:58:00","slug":"is-county-commission-candidate-lying-about-his-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/is-county-commission-candidate-lying-about-his-past\/","title":{"rendered":"Is county commission candidate lying about his past?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Is Doyle Pruitt, the Republican candidate for a seat on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/\" target=\"_blank\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Board of Commissioners<\/a>, lying about whether he\u2019s ever served as an elected official?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The evidence suggests he is lying, and Pruitt, in a brief interview, refused to answer any questions about the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt has told the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/ci_10714274\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a> he has prior experience as an elected official on a city council in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">California<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. And he told the <a href=\"http:\/\/lascrucesbulletin.com\/ee\/lascrucesbulletin\/default.php?pSetup=lascrucesbulletin\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Bulletin<\/a> he served four years on the city council in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakewoodcity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lakewood, Calif.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A spokesman for that city, Don Waldie, wrote in an e-mail that Pruitt ran for city council in 1980 but came in 13th out of 14 candidates, winning 308 votes out of about 4,000. Pruitt has never been a city council member, Waldie wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In addition, the city, located in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Los Angeles<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>, recently published a list of city councilors dating back to 1954, and Pruitt isn\u2019t on the list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Reached by telephone, Pruitt refused to answer questions about the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m not running for office in that state. That\u2019s not my platform,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 I just have no answer for it. I don\u2019t understand it. Well, I do understand it but I\u2019m not going to go into it. I\u2019ve made some enemies. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt was quoted by the Bulletin as saying that he served all but two months of his term on the Lakewood City Council before quitting because he was \u201ctired of being a minority of one.\u201d Asked about the city saying he never served on the council, Pruitt told the newspaper that \u201csomebody\u2019s playing games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Democratic Party of New Mexico attacked in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is extremely important that the public can completely trust the candidates running for office,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottforcommissioner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Krahling<\/a>, Pruitt\u2019s Democratic opponent for the District 4 seat, said in the release. \u201cIf one misleads the public regarding their r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and past public service, then we must question their honesty, integrity and ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt, who has lived in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> for nine years, ran for a state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Public Regulation Commission<\/a> seat in 2006.
