{"id":3875,"date":"2008-10-20T15:06:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T21:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/teague-says-harassment-lawsuit-has-been-resolved\/"},"modified":"2008-10-20T15:06:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-20T21:06:00","slug":"teague-says-harassment-lawsuit-has-been-resolved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/teague-says-harassment-lawsuit-has-been-resolved\/","title":{"rendered":"Teague says harassment lawsuit has been resolved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SPzzHtk7jAI\/AAAAAAAAJHk\/BAftEmcuoyM\/s1600-h\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SPzzHtk7jAI\/AAAAAAAAJHk\/BAftEmcuoyM\/s200\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259345778681023490\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> says a lawsuit accusing him of ignoring a sexual harassment complaint filed by an employee against a top manager at one of his companies has been resolved.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague made the announcement during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.koat.com\/video\/17758838\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">a Sunday debate<\/a> against his opponent, Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cYou were sued for a sexual harassment case by an employee of yours, and yet it remains unresolved,\u201d Tinsley said during the debate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague responded by saying he wanted to be \u201creal clear about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen I heard about that instance in my company, I was concerned,\u201d Teague said. \u201cI was real concerned because we don\u2019t allow that type of behavior in my company. And that has been taken care of, and it was settled out of court\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.haussamen.com\/TeacoEnergyLawsuit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">The lawsuit against Teague<\/a>, his son, the top manager in question &#8212; James Chenault &#8212; and two of Teague\u2019s companies alleged that Chenault, the operations manager for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/cgi-bin\/prcdtl.cgi?0778845+ABC+RENTAL+TOOL+COMPANY\" target=\"_blank\">ABC Rental Tool Company<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/cgi-bin\/prcdtl.cgi?2053130+TEACO+ENERGY+SERVICES+INC\" target=\"_blank\">Teaco Energy Services<\/a>, gave Carolina Cueto gifts, use of a car, raises and promotions and also invited her to his home for dinner on several occasions. When she refused to attend, Chenault would become angry and wouldn\u2019t speak with her at work for days, according to the complaint, which was filed in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cueto felt like she had to attend because she is a single mother of two children and wanted to avoid the possibility of losing her job and being subjected to the hostile work environment created when she refused his invitations, the lawsuit stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She also alleged she was subjected to \u201csexual jokes, comments and inquiries, sexually oriented physical contact, sexual gestures and sexually oriented practical jokes\u201d at work by Chenault and other male employees. She left the job after being demoted from office manager in March 2007.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cueto claimed she complained to Teague and his son <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Troy<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, but neither took action to stop the harassment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In an interview today, Teague\u2019s campaign manager, Frank Costanzo, said, as of last week, \u201cthe matter had been settled out of court.\u201d He said Teague and \u201cthe individuals operating the company\u201d were all dropped from the lawsuit \u201cbecause there was no basis to it,\u201d and he said the lawsuit was resolved \u201cin an equitable manner for the individuals involved, and the paperwork was signed and notarized Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He said the settlement documents \u201cshould appear this week,\u201d but did not release specifics about the settlement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate Harry Teague says a lawsuit accusing him of ignoring a sexual harassment complaint filed by an employee against a top manager at one of his companies has been resolved.
