Eleanor Chavez, D-Albuquerque<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>TV stations find residents who say they didn\u2019t sign Eleanor Chavez\u2019s nominating petitions, even though those petitions include their names, addresses and alleged signatures.<\/h4>\n<p>Possible fraudulent signatures on her nominating petitions have landed State Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eleanorchavez.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eleanor Chavez<\/a> in the middle of a serious controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez, a Democratic state representative who is giving up that seat to run for Senate, turned in petitions that include the alleged signatures of a number of people who say they didn\u2019t sign the petitions. Law enforcement is investigating.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kob.com\/article\/stories\/S2565008.shtml?cat=500\" target=\"_blank\">KOB-TV<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe\u00a0KOB 4 On Your Side team began looking into the claims and found at least five people listed on the petition denied ever knowing, meeting, or signing any petitions for Chavez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c4 On Your Side visited random homes listed on the petition.\u00a0The homeowners included Michelle Stark, Ryan Stark, Alfred Howell, Victoria Deer, and Joseph Dangelo, all who said on camera that they never signed Chavez\u2019s petition.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Watch KOB\u2019s report here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"http:\/\/eplayer.clipsyndicate.com\/embed\/iframe?pl_id=13637&#038;page_count=6&#038;rel=3&#038;windows=1&#038;tags=default&#038;aspect_ratio=16x9&#038;show_title=0&#038;va_id=3396496&#038;pf_id=1297&#038;auto_start=0&#038;auto_next=0&#038;volume=8\" width=\"425\" height=\"330\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>KRQE-TV did the same legwork and found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krqe.com\/dpp\/news\/politics\/forgery-charges-in-state-senate-race\" target=\"_blank\">the same result<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt takes 58 signatures from registered Democrats to get on the ballot as a Democratic candidate for the District 14 seat in New Mexico\u2019s state senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrent state Rep. Here\u2019s the statement Chavez sent out Tuesday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI had many volunteers \u2013 friends, neighbors and family \u2013 collect signatures for our campaign. They weren\u2019t paid canvassers \u2013 just volunteers doing their best.\u00a0We are conducting an internal investigation and will fully cooperate with proper authorities to find out if any wrongdoing happened in some of our signatures or those submitted by our opponent.\u00a0We had no knowledge of erroneous signature collecting by volunteers and would never allow or condone this behavior.
