{"id":3858,"date":"2008-10-15T23:22:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-16T05:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/freedoms-watch-releases-new-ad-attacking-heinrich\/"},"modified":"2008-10-15T23:22:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-16T05:22:00","slug":"freedoms-watch-releases-new-ad-attacking-heinrich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/freedoms-watch-releases-new-ad-attacking-heinrich\/","title":{"rendered":"Freedom&#8217;s Watch releases new ad attacking Heinrich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomswatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Freedom\u2019s Watch<\/a> is out with a new ad hitting Democratic 1st Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> for failing to obtain a business license several years ago and failing to register as a lobbyist when he worked toward creation of the Ojito Wilderness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the 30-second spot:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ql0erG7DJbc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ql0erG7DJbc&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWanted: public leaders who respect ethics laws. And Martin Heinrich? We already know Heinrich operated a business illegally while on City Council, and he apparently skirted the law, trying to influence government officials without registering as a lobbyist,\u201d the ad\u2019s narrator states. \u201cHeinrich says that law didn\u2019t apply to him, but his former boss says it did and Heinrich\u2019s failure to comply could have jeopardized everything. Tell Martin to support tougher ethics laws and to follow them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad plays off of the state GOP\u2019s assertion <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/gop-hammers-heinrich-on-lobbying-debate.html\">that Heinrich\u2019s failure to register as a lobbyist broke the law<\/a>. Heinrich calls his work \u201cadvocacy\u201d and says he wasn\u2019t required to register as a lobbyist under state or federal law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich has previously admitted that he ran his consulting business for three years &#8212; including time while he was an <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> city councilor &#8212; before realizing he needed a city business license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Freedom\u2019s Watch is pitching in quite a bit to help Heinrich\u2019s Republican opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darrenwhiteforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Darren White<\/a>. That\u2019s significant especially because the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) recently <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/10\/politico-gop-ditches-white-to-help.html\">redirected its focus<\/a> from helping White win the open seat to helping GOP incumbents in other states keep their seats.
