Through the first two months of this year\u2019s fundraising drive, I emphasized my push to expand NMPolitics.net by hiring reporting help. But there\u2019s a more basic issue I\u2019ve failed to stress thus far.<\/p>\n

NMPolitics.net can\u2019t survive without your donations.<\/p>\n

Frankly, NMPolitics.net has fallen a little bit further behind my goal of raising $18,000 by April 30 each of the last few weeks. We\u2019re not currently on track to reach that goal. I still hope we can get there, which is why I\u2019m asking you to make a contribution today.<\/p>\n

I still hope to hire help. I strongly believe in the importance of diversity in reporting, and right now, this site has none. I\u2019m the only reporter.<\/p>\n

But the reality is that I would have shut this site down two years ago if I hadn\u2019t met the $10,000 goal<\/a> I set during my first fundraising drive. Your donations are that important. Advertising alone can\u2019t sustain this site.<\/p>\n

So far this year, 116 people from across the state and nation, and the political spectrum, have come together to contribute $10,200 to NMPolitics.net. That\u2019s an impressive and humbling display of support.<\/p>\n

There are still a few weeks to improve on that total.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not going to change the fundraising goal or the end date for this fundraising drive. I\u2019m still aiming for $18,000 by the end of this month. I hope you\u2019ll help us get there.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s doable. Nearly 200,000 unique visitors came to NMPolitics.net in 2011. If even a small fraction of you \u2013 say, 5,000 \u2013 donated $10 apiece, we\u2019d blow this year\u2019s $18,000 fundraising goal out of the water.<\/p>\n

You can give a one-time contribution in any amount, or you can sign up to have your credit or debit card automatically charged $10 or $20 each month with the ability to cancel at any time.<\/p>\n

Those who sign up for automatic contributions will receive a monthly newsletter containing exclusive analysis and interesting tidbits about what\u2019s happening in New Mexico and news about NMPolitics.net. Those who give a one-time contribution of at least $120 will also receive the monthly newsletter for a year.<\/p>\n
