{"id":3850,"date":"2008-10-15T09:46:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-15T15:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/two-more-metro-court-defendants-plead-guilty\/"},"modified":"2008-10-15T09:46:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-15T15:46:00","slug":"two-more-metro-court-defendants-plead-guilty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/10\/two-more-metro-court-defendants-plead-guilty\/","title":{"rendered":"Two more metro court defendants plead guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Only former state Senate president Manny Aragon and one other man are left to face a jury later this month in the <st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court<\/st1:address><\/st1:street> scandal after two additional defendants pleaded guilty on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sandra Mata Martinez and Raul Parra both admitted to the charges against them on Tuesday, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/metro\/1594862429newsmetro10-15-08.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> is reporting. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Martinez<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> admitted to a felony charge of helping her husband cover up his illegal activity, while Parra admitted taking $3.3 million in taxpayer money by inflating and falsifying invoices during construction of the building, and to keeping $700,000 of that for himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Parra faces a maximum of 71 months in prison, the Journal reported. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Martinez<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> could face as much as 18 months in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Their guilty pleas follow a Friday guilty plea from <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Martinez<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s husband, Toby Martinez, who admitted to taking more than $2 million from taxpayers. The former administrator of the court could face 45 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The project\u2019s architect Marc Schiff, former Albuquerque Mayor Ken Schultz and the audiovisual subcontractor, Manuel Guara, entered into plea bargains months ago, before any indictments became public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That leaves Aragon and former construction manager Michael Murphy scheduled for trial beginning Oct. 28.
