Good journalism seeks truth over balance, and that’s exactly what I try to do with NMPolitics.net. If you appreciate that type of work, will you make a donation to support it?<\/h4>\n

Last month, NPR unveiled a new ethics handbook<\/a> for its journalists that placed a higher priority on telling the truth<\/a> than on balancing a story. It was a move I applauded in a note on Facebook<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cGood journalism seeks truth over balance. Sometimes that means reporting the complexities of issues with representation by all sides. Sometimes it means calling a spade a spade… Too often journalists today shy away from calling a spade a spade. Good for NPR.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s what I try to do with NMPolitics.net. Last week, for example, I published a lengthy article<\/a> on a residency controversy that\u2019s dogging a House candidate because it\u2019s a complex issue that required in-depth exploration of various viewpoints.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, I\u2019ve called out Senate President Pro Tem Tim Jennings for using government resources to campaign<\/a> and Secretary of State Dianna Duran for the way she\u2019s handled her investigation of the state\u2019s voter rolls<\/a> because, in both instances, it needed to be done.<\/p>\n
