His campaign said NBC notified it today that it plans to instead focus its Sunday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/3032608\" target=\"_blank\">Meet the Press<\/a> program on the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a statement sent to the Pearce campaign, Betsy Fischer, executive producer of Meet the Press, said, \u201cDue to our need to focus the program on the escalating financial crisis, we are going to be unable to host this Sunday\u2019s New Mexico Senate Debate. We hope you understand that as a news program we sometimes have to change our programming plans as major news dictates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SO5r8t2xOlI\/AAAAAAAAI_c\/4bkfCXWT7fg\/s1600-h\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SO5r8t2xOlI\/AAAAAAAAI_c\/4bkfCXWT7fg\/s200\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255256506033584722\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Pearce said the debate \u201cwould have been a great opportunity\u201d and he is disappointed, but pointed out that there are still three upcoming televised debates between him and Democratic candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe have three televised debates that are going to provide <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> voters with a great chance to see the two candidates share their very different views on the future of the country,\u201d Pearce said. \u201cWe are working hard and looking forward to those upcoming debates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The debate schedule includes a debate on Wednesday hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kobtv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KOB-TV<\/a>, one on Oct. 18 hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krqe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KRQE-TV<\/a> and one on Oct. 26 hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.koat.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">KOAT-TV<\/a>. None of those <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> television stations reaches <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>, the state\u2019s second largest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Udall spokeswoman Marissa Padilla said Udall \u201chas been looking forward to debating Steve Pearce on Meet the Press this Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHe has been campaigning across the state and talking with New Mexicans about the severity of the current economic situation,\u201d Padilla said. \u201cHe looks forward to debating Congressman Pearce on this and important issues during their three additional debates this month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">When NBC scheduled the Meet the Press debate, pundits considered New Mexico\u2019s Senate race one of the hottest in the nation, but Pearce, after gaining ground in the polls weeks ago, has lost ground in recent weeks.
