\"\"<\/a>Rain didn\u2019t stop hundreds of people from coming out to see actors Eva Longoria<\/a> and Adam Rodriguez<\/a> urge voter registration and voting for Barack Obama<\/a> on Sunday in Las Cruces, but it did appear to cut short the stars\u2019 rally.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019m going to get electrocuted,\u201d Longoria told Rodriguez as she handed him the microphone while raindrops fell on the rally at New Mexico<\/st1:placename> State<\/st1:placetype> University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. She spoke for two or three minutes before giving up the microphone.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

A couple of minutes later, Longoria, who stars in \u201cDesperate Housewives,\u201d<\/a> <\/span>was back in the vehicle that transported the stars to the event.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

That\u2019s about how it went. The stars arrived later than scheduled and didn\u2019t stay long. Rodriguez, who stars in \u201cCSI: Miami,\u201d<\/a> spoke for a couple of minutes before handing Longoria the microphone. Both urged students to register to vote before Tuesday\u2019s deadline — and to support Obama.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cFor so long, the government has been talking down to the youth, and we finally have a candidate in Barack Obama who is talking to the youth,\u201d Longoria said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Rodriguez spoke for a couple of additional minutes after Longoria handed him the microphone, then the two began making their way back to their vehicle. Longoria rolled down her window to sign a few autographs, while Rodriguez stood in the rain for several minutes to sign autographs and take photos before he joined her in the vehicle and they left.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Before their brief appearance in Las Cruces<\/st1:city>, the weather moved back and forth between sunshine and drizzle until, moments before they arrived, a downpour soaked those standing outside Corbett<\/st1:placename> Center<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> waiting to see the stars. By the time Longoria and Rodriguez arrived, the weather had returned to a steady drizzle.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Several local politicians entertained the crowd while people waited for the stars to arrive. And a group of a dozen supporters of Republican presidential John McCain<\/a> crashed the party, holding signs bearing slogans such as \u201cNobama,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t want your change,\u201d \u201cCan\u2019t afford your change,\u201d and \u201cWe need leadership, not community organizers.\u201d Several speakers, including Rodriguez, engaged the McCain supporters.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cWe gotta thank our McCain friends in the back for showing up today, and I hope they benefited,\u201d Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley<\/a> also referred to the McCain supporters as he urged young people to vote for Obama if they care about being able to take out student loans and find jobs when they graduate.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t vote, we\u2019re going to have four more years of the policies these guys over here are happy to continue,\u201d McCamley said, gesturing to the McCain supporters.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

State Rep. Joseph Cervantes<\/a> took another shot at Republicans as he warmed up the crowd.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to meeting Barack Obama\u2019s version of a desperate housewife,\u201d he said. \u201cNow, the Republicans have their own version of a desperate housewife. You remember when they asked her (Sarah Palin<\/a>) which newspapers she\u2019s read<\/a> and she said, \u201cAll of them.\u2019 And Katie Couric asked her specifically which newspapers she\u2019s read, and she said, \u2018All of them, whatever they put in front of me.\u2019 So we\u2019re excited to have a desperate housewife of a different kind today.\u201d<\/p>\n
