{"id":3781,"date":"2008-09-30T10:35:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-30T16:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/tinsley-campaign-downplays-gop-affiliation\/"},"modified":"2008-09-30T10:35:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-30T16:35:00","slug":"tinsley-campaign-downplays-gop-affiliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/tinsley-campaign-downplays-gop-affiliation\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinsley campaign downplays GOP affiliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The campaign of Republican 2nd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a> is gaining some national attention because of a video that shows his wife saying the campaign is downplaying Tinsley\u2019s party affiliation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the video:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-sFuT5KvNdQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-sFuT5KvNdQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen the primary was over, all our signs had Republican on them, and we had to have everything totally redone without the Republican &#8212; all our stickers, everything,\u201d Tinsley\u2019s wife Meredith says in the video.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The video was first posted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/scorecard\/0908\/Tinsley_campaign_downplays_GOP_affiliation.html?showall\" target=\"_blank\">The Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cKeep in mind that the district is the most Republican district in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, and hasn\u2019t elected a Democrat to Congress since 1980. It gave President Bush 58 percent of the vote in 2004,\u201d the Web site\u2019s article states. \u201cBut Democrats believe they have a real chance to buck history, nominating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a>, a conservative oilman who supports offshore oil drilling, to represent the energy-rich district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley spokesman Jim Pettit said there isn\u2019t much significance to the video.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe video clip at a recent campaign event simply reflects what is already in our television commercials, which also make no mention of party affiliation,\u201d he said. \u201c<st1:place st=\"on\">Southern New Mexico<\/st1:place> has a long tradition of upholding conservative values, which is more important to highlight than party affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Teague campaign declined to comment.
