The Los Lunas Republican, an attorney, says he has to focus on his work.<\/h4>\n

Rep. David Chavez<\/a> is the tenth state House member to announce he won\u2019t seek re-election this year.<\/p>\n

The Valencia County News Bulletin was the first to report<\/a> that Chavez, R-Los Lunas, had decided against seeking a second term representing District 7 in the House. The attorney said he has to focus on his work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to dedicate myself to my practice and my clients,\u201d the newspaper quoted Chavez as saying. \u201cI am extraordinarily busy and have obligations to my clients.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called the decision to not run again \u201cthe hardest I\u2019ve had to make,\u201d and said the state needs to consider paying legislators.<\/p>\n

Republican Kelly Fajardo<\/a> of Belen, owner of a social media and web services company, immediately announced she would seek the seat, saying New Mexicans are \u201ctired of career politicians who won\u2019t represent the values and views of their constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n
