{"id":3773,"date":"2008-09-29T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-29T16:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/trip-reveals-wide-range-of-gas-prices-in-nm\/"},"modified":"2008-09-29T10:11:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-29T16:11:00","slug":"trip-reveals-wide-range-of-gas-prices-in-nm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/trip-reveals-wide-range-of-gas-prices-in-nm\/","title":{"rendered":"Trip reveals wide range of gas prices in NM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I drove the length of the state this weekend, from <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> all the way to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Kirtland, and I was shocked to see the wide range of gas prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gas as I left <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> on Friday was selling for $3.49 per gallon at many stations, and that remains the price today. In Bernalillo on Friday, one station was selling gas for $3.20 per gallon, but most were selling it for $3.35 per gallon. That\u2019s not abnormal. Bernalillo is usually a bit cheaper than <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Then, in the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> area, most stations were selling gas for about $3.70 per gallon throughout the weekend. On Sunday I stopped in <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> on my way back to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to find gas as cheap as $3.26 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most shocking oddity this weekend was the difference between prices in <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, where gas prices have been roughly the same for some time. What changed? Why is there now a difference of some 20 cents per gallon between the two cities? Why is there now a difference of some 40 cents per gallon between <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>? That\u2019s more like the usual difference between gas prices in <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">California<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The change appears to be in the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> area.
