Steve Fischmann, D-Mesilla Park<\/p><\/div>\n<p>State Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SFISC\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Fischmann<\/a> says a \u201chighly partisan\u201d and \u201cunproductive\u201d atmosphere during the past two legislative sessions factored into his decision to not seek re-election this year.<\/p>\n<p>NMPolitics.net was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/03\/sen-fischmann-isnt-seeking-re-election\/\" target=\"_blank\">first to report<\/a> that Fischmann, D-Mesilla Park, had decided against seeking a second term in office. He confirmed that report late Sunday in an e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am making this decision for a combination of family reasons and the desire to pursue other endeavors where I can better focus my energies and have a greater impact,\u201d Fischmann said. \u201cThe highly partisan, and I believe, unproductive nature of the past two legislative sessions played a significant role in my decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said he planned to \u201cremain active in public service both through my involvement in the <a href=\"http:\/\/readingfoundation.org\/dona_ana\" target=\"_blank\">Children\u2019s Reading Foundation<\/a> and public issues advocacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy term in the Senate has been a terrific\u00a0experience, and I want to thank all of the supporters and colleagues who helped me along the way,\u201d Fischmann said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Sen.
