It\u2019s a wrong statement to make. That\u2019s not what Republicans believe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SNkBkXOAQkI\/AAAAAAAAIw0\/Um-klUW-UGU\/s1600-h\/Weh,+Allan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SNkBkXOAQkI\/AAAAAAAAIw0\/Um-klUW-UGU\/s200\/Weh,+Allan.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249228564896694850\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Weh agreed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere\u2019s an overwhelming consensus in the Republican Party at large that he should step aside,\u201d the Journal quoted Weh as saying. \u201cIt has become &#8230; an unfair distraction to every issue that should be focused on in this election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And Elaine Miller, the county party\u2019s vice chairwoman, told the Journal that stepping down \u201cwould be in his best interest, so we could get it behind us, so it doesn\u2019t affect the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">C. de Baca has said he will resign at this morning\u2019s meeting of the county party\u2019s executive board if that\u2019s what the board desires, but he maintains that his quote was taken out of context.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">BBC News blogger Jon Kelly quoted C. de Baca <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/blogs\/talkingamerica\/2008\/09\/the_sound_of_ranchera_and.html\" target=\"_blank\">in a Friday blog posting<\/a> about the presidential race as saying that, \u201cThe truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors. African-Americans came here as slaves. Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won\u2019t vote for a black president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kelly and BBC News say Kelly quoted C. de Baca accurately and in the proper context.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two top GOP officials &#8212; U.S. Sen.
