He once owned property there, but he sold it in 2005. For years he has owned and lived on a ranch near Pecos in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st2:sn st=\"on\">San<\/st2:sn> <st2:middlename st=\"on\">Miguel<\/st2:middlename> <st2:sn st=\"on\">County<\/st2:sn><\/st1:place>, but he has not switched his voter registration to that county.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kilmer has said he was thinking about running for governor, and a recent report from <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/another-report-says-kilmer-may-run-for.html\">The Politico<\/a> suggested he\u2019s considering a 2010 run. His agent declined to talk with The Associated Press about the situation. No independent has ever been elected governor of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> gave attention to the situation this week when <a href=\"http:\/\/kob.com\/article\/stories\/S575529.shtml?cat=517\" target=\"_blank\">he told journalists<\/a> that he liked the idea of Kilmer running for governor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cVal Kilmer is a New Mexican. He was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cI haven\u2019t talked to him about it. I don\u2019t know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he\u2019s got name ID, so it can\u2019t be discounted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s comments created a stir because Lt. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltgovernor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a>, who like <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is a Democrat, has been raising money for the 2010 race for some time and is poised to become governor sooner than that if <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> leaves to take a job in a potential <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> administration in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Denish have been at odds over a host of issues. But <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was quoted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/12104184404newsstate09-12-08.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> as saying that it\u2019s \u201ctoo early\u201d to make endorsements and his comments about Kilmer should not be interpreted as support for a potential gubernatorial run by the actor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also said he holds Denish in high regard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Denish told the Journal that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s comments didn\u2019t bother her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of speculation about 2010.
