\"\"<\/a>Actor Val Kilmer<\/a> may be considering running for governor of New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, but he hasn\u2019t ever voted in the state and isn\u2019t registered in the county in which he currently lives, The Associated Press<\/a> is reporting. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Kilmer registered to vote as an independent in Santa Fe<\/st1:placename> County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> in 1992, the news service reported. He once owned property there, but he sold it in 2005. For years he has owned and lived on a ranch near Pecos in San<\/st2:sn> Miguel<\/st2:middlename> County<\/st2:sn><\/st1:place>, but he has not switched his voter registration to that county.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Kilmer has said he was thinking about running for governor, and a recent report from The Politico<\/a> suggested he\u2019s considering a 2010 run. His agent declined to talk with The Associated Press about the situation. No independent has ever been elected governor of New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Gov. Bill Richardson<\/a> gave attention to the situation this week when he told journalists<\/a> that he liked the idea of Kilmer running for governor.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cVal Kilmer is a New Mexican. He was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics,\u201d Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cI haven\u2019t talked to him about it. I don\u2019t know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he\u2019s got name ID, so it can\u2019t be discounted.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s comments created a stir because Lt. Gov. Diane Denish<\/a>, who like Richardson<\/st1:city> is a Democrat, has been raising money for the 2010 race for some time and is poised to become governor sooner than that if Richardson<\/st1:city> leaves to take a job in a potential Barack Obama<\/a> administration in Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> next year.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Denish have been at odds over a host of issues. But Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was quoted by the Albuquerque Journal<\/a> as saying that it\u2019s \u201ctoo early\u201d to make endorsements and his comments about Kilmer should not be interpreted as support for a potential gubernatorial run by the actor.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also said he holds Denish in high regard.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Denish told the Journal that Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s comments didn\u2019t bother her.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of speculation about 2010. But what I\u2019m doing, and what I think everyone should be doing, is working on 2008,\u201d the Journal quoted Denish as saying. \u201cI\u2019m not going to speculate on what the governor thinks.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
