The survey of 700 likely voters was conducted Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMi6B1DUgGI\/AAAAAAAAIrM\/XfD9giqKYfA\/s1600-h\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMi6B1DUgGI\/AAAAAAAAIrM\/XfD9giqKYfA\/s200\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244646306656583778\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>That\u2019s a significant gain for McCain, who trailed Obama by six points in the group\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/new_mexico\/little_change_in_new_mexico_obama_by_six\" target=\"_blank\">Aug. 20 survey<\/a>, 5 points in its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/new_mexico\/new_mexico_getting_closer_but_obama_still_leads_by_five\" target=\"_blank\">July 24 survey<\/a> and eight points in its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/new_mexico\/new_mexico_obama_holds_onto_lead_in_land_of_enchantment\" target=\"_blank\">June 19 survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s also in line with national polling and surveys in other states that show McCain gaining significant ground and, in some polls, overtaking Obama because of excitement surrounding Palin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">While most polls have shown Obama leading in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, this is the second poll to say that McCain leads here. An August <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/08\/new-poll-says-mccain-has-edge-in-nm.html\">Mason Dixon poll<\/a> had McCain leading by four points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">About its new poll, Rasmussen Reports notes that McCain\u2019s lead is within the margin of error, but \u201cit\u2019s quite an improvement for McCain.\u201d The Republican candidate leads in the new poll among voters over 40, while Obama has the lead among younger voters. McCain leads among men but Obama leads among women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Palin earned higher \u201cvery favorable\u201d views in the poll than McCain, Obama or Obama\u2019s running mate, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/learn\/meet_joe.php\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Biden<\/a>.
