The verdict: The similarities between the two candidates \u201ccould spell trouble for the GOP, which could lose its 30-year grip on the district if Teague can appeal to its conservative Republican base.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">One sign of GOP concern, the article states, is that the vice president is hosting a fundraiser for Tinsley later this month in Teague\u2019s hometown of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMb5EXFHXeI\/AAAAAAAAIqM\/KDJ0gEh5LNc\/s1600-h\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMb5EXFHXeI\/AAAAAAAAIqM\/KDJ0gEh5LNc\/s200\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244152669429784034\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Both candidates, The Politico reports, \u201chave deep ties to the local oil industry and support increased domestic drilling and alternative energy development in the rural district. Both men are also wealthy enough to finance a good chunk of their own campaigns. As of June, Teague had given himself more than $768,000\u2026 and Tinsley had given himself $235,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley\u2019s hope, according to the article, \u201cis to showcase areas where Teague falls short of the conservative platform.\u201d Tinsley is doing that, telling the news outlet that Teague\u2019s \u201cmessage has consistently flown in the face of conservative beliefs, whether it\u2019s on tax policy, energy policy or his position on <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. I would say you don\u2019t change the spots on a leopard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, Teague is out with a new TV ad. Here it is:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/IB1BW2NUj9g&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/IB1BW2NUj9g&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 9:55 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley spokesman Jim Pettit said, in response to Teague\u2019s new ad, that voters in the district care more about energy and the economy than the candidates.
