{"id":3686,"date":"2008-09-08T12:06:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-08T18:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/another-report-says-kilmer-may-run-for-guv-in-2010\/"},"modified":"2008-09-08T12:06:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-08T18:06:00","slug":"another-report-says-kilmer-may-run-for-guv-in-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/another-report-says-kilmer-may-run-for-guv-in-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Another report says Kilmer may run for guv in 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMVp-R_GoSI\/AAAAAAAAIpk\/9NpkfzQPaHo\/s1600-h\/Kilmer,+Val.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SMVp-R_GoSI\/AAAAAAAAIpk\/9NpkfzQPaHo\/s200\/Kilmer,+Val.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243713859843694882\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>There\u2019s a new report that actor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valekilmer.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Val Kilmer<\/a> may run for governor of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in 2010.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Talk of a potential Kilmer run is nothing new. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hiphop-elements.com\/article\/read\/4\/13866\/1\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Entertainment News Network<\/a> reported in January that Kilmer might try to follow <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ronald_Reagan\" target=\"_blank\">Ronald Reagan<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arnold_Schwarzenegger\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> and other Hollywood stars into politics by seeking to replace <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> as the state\u2019s leader in a couple of years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">But the Thursday report in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/anneschroeder\/0908\/Batman_Forever.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Politico<\/a> suggests that, after initially floating the idea and seeing the reaction, Kilmer is still serious about the possibility. The January report stated that Kilmer \u201cclaims he already has the backing to run for governor\u2026 and could do a far better job than other stars who have crossed the divide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI did get some lobbyists once saying that I\u2019d make a good governor,\u201d the media outlet quoted Kilmer as saying. \u201cReagan wasn\u2019t much of an actor and look how that worked out for him. And then there\u2019s <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Arnold<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2026 I think you should be able to pronounce the name of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kilmer, who has stared in movies <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Val_Kilmer#Filmography\" target=\"_blank\">including Top Gun and Batman Forever<\/a>, lives on a large ranch near <st1:place st=\"on\">Pecos<\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A 2003 Rolling Stone article stirred controversy in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> when it quoted Kilmer as saying he lives \u201cin the homicidal capital of the Southwest\u201d and that \u201c80 percent of the people in my county (San Miguel) are drunk.\u201d Kilmer said he was misquoted and some comments were taken out of context, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/ae\/movies\/articles\/2003\/10\/10\/nm_governor_dines_with_val_kilmer\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Associated Press<\/a>. He later dined with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> at the governor\u2019s mansion to try to smooth things over with angry New Mexicans. At the time, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> called him \u201ca great New Mexican.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kilmer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votenader.org\/media\/2008\/08\/19\/DenverRally3\/\" target=\"_blank\">was scheduled to appear<\/a> last month with independent presidential candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votenader.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ralph Nader<\/a> at an open-debate rally in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Denver<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> timed to coincide with the Democrats\u2019 convention, but he ended up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.5280.com\/blog\/?p=3890&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">skipping the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a new report that actor Val Kilmer may run for governor of New Mexico in 2010.
