Bill Richardson, who fired the first negative campaign shots within days of Dendahl becoming a candidate last month.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">During a speech to the Optimists Club, Dendahl tried to emphasize his native New Mexican roots and paint Richardson as someone who\u2019s only here to further his political career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He called the ethical standards in the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> administration \u201cdisgraceful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis year, the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region> attorney has pulled the scab off the corruption in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d Dendahl said, referring to the state treasurer scandal. \u201cBut there are no ethics laws in the world that can make unethical people behave in an ethical manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cU<span style=\"color:black;\">nlike the current governor, who\u2019s always had his head in the public trough, I bring a business perspective and much successful business experience,\u201d Dendahl said. \u201cAnd I intend to do two things: one, stay at home, and two, restore a sense of respect for our state employees so they can once again hold their heads up proudly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">I will say this: It\u2019s easy to know how to hit <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. Dendahl may be a political genius, but he doesn\u2019t have to be one to figure that out.
