{"id":3660,"date":"2008-09-02T22:03:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-03T04:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/guv-signs-grip-health-care-funding-bills\/"},"modified":"2008-09-02T22:03:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-03T04:03:00","slug":"guv-signs-grip-health-care-funding-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/09\/guv-signs-grip-health-care-funding-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Guv signs GRIP, health-care funding bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SL4MygOo3UI\/AAAAAAAAIls\/qFTP5WY41kM\/s1600-h\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SL4MygOo3UI\/AAAAAAAAIls\/qFTP5WY41kM\/s200\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241641078090161474\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Without ceremony, Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> signed today a $200 million highway-construction bill approved during the recent special session of the Legislature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also signed the health-care funding bill the Legislature sent him, with a partial veto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The highway bill will help fund 13 projects across the state that are part of <a href=\"http:\/\/nmgrip.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Richardson\u2019s Investment Partnership<\/a> (GRIP).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWith this money we can address critical highway projects in rural <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a news release. \u201cThese rural highways are the lifeline for thousands of our residents who use them everyday to commute, visit families and conduct their daily business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The signing of the bill follows the news from late last week that federal investigators are looking into the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/08\/nmfa-is-cooperating-with-federal-probe.html\">dealings between the state and a California firm<\/a> that was paid almost $1 million under a state contract related to the $1.6 billion GRIP program. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdrfp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CDR Financial Products<\/a> made large campaign contributions to political committees formed by <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> around the time it won the contract related to GRIP in 2004.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">When I asked last week, in light of the probe, if <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> would sign the GRIP bill, his office had no comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also signed today the health-care bill that makes $22.5 million available to expand existing programs to cover an additional 17,000 children. It also provides $10 million for the Developmentally Disabled Medicaid waiver program, which the release states will help provide services to more than 400 New Mexicans, both children and adults, who have spent years on the waiver waiting list that currently has more than 4,000 people on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am proud to sign this bill, which gives so many <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> families the health care they deserve,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a second release. \u201cThis is a big day for our state, and a major first step toward our goal of ensuring every New Mexican has access to quality health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, according to the release, vetoed language in the health-care bill \u201cthat attempted to limit the Human Services Department\u2019s authority to manage and distribute health care funds. The veto also gives HSD the flexibility to provide health care services to New Mexicans in the most efficient manner.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Without ceremony, Gov.
