{"id":36155,"date":"2012-02-03T07:05:53","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T14:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=36155"},"modified":"2012-02-03T07:06:00","modified_gmt":"2012-02-03T14:06:00","slug":"correra-bribed-adviser-malott-alleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/02\/correra-bribed-adviser-malott-alleges\/","title":{"rendered":"Correra bribed adviser, Malott alleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_17542\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17542\" title=\"Malott, Bruce\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Malott-Bruce.jpg\" alt=\"Bruce Malott\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bruce Malott<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s a new bribery allegation related to the investment scandal that rocked the administration of former Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Richardson\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Albuquerque Journal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/main\/2012\/02\/03\/news\/malott-alleges-correra-bribe.html\" target=\"_blank\">has the story:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA former high-paid state investment adviser, who has admitted directing deals to benefit political players, received a $10,000 cash bribe from Anthony Correra, according to court documents filed Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaul Meyer, founding partner of Aldus Equity Advisors of Dallas, discussed receiving an envelope from Correra in a 2006 telephone conversation with his then-partner Matthew O\u2019Reilly.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A transcript of that phone conversation was filed in court Thursday as part of former Educational Retirement Board Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/11\/former-erb-chairman-files-new-pay-to-play-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce Malott\u2019s lawsuit<\/a> against Meyer, Correra and his son, and others accusing them of corruption and racketeering.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full Journal article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/main\/2012\/02\/03\/news\/malott-alleges-correra-bribe.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This is the latest revelation in a scandal that\u2019s been ongoing for more than two years \u2013 one that law enforcement is investigating. An audio recording that recently came out in another civil case related to the investment scandal included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2012\/01\/correras-%E2%80%98run-the-governor%E2%80%99-adviser-claimed-about-richardson\/\" target=\"_blank\">this quote<\/a> from Saul Meyer:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTo think that Anthony (Correra) and Marc (Correra) don\u2019t have a stranglehold over this thing is crazy. Because the governor runs this sh*t and they run the governor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Correras were well-connected. Anthony was a close friend of and adviser to Richardson. His son, Marc, shared in at least $22 million in so-called \u201cfinder\u2019s fees\u201d paid by companies that won state investment contracts.<\/p>\n<p>As for Meyer, he\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/10\/nm%E2%80%99s-former-investment-adviser-pleads-guilty\/\" target=\"_blank\">pleaded guilty in 2009<\/a>\u00a0to felonies in New York related to an investment scandal there. In doing so, Meyer admitted to recommending \u2018investments that were pushed on him by politically-connected individuals in New Mexico\u2019 while Aldus was the investment adviser to New Mexico\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sic.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">State Investment Council<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmerb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Educational Retirement Board<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson, of course, is apparently under investigation by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/12\/grand-jury-investigating-richardson-meets-tuesday\/\" target=\"_blank\">at least two federal grand juries<\/a>.
