{"id":3588,"date":"2008-08-18T02:01:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T08:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/club-for-growth-attacks-udall-in-new-tv-ad\/"},"modified":"2008-08-18T02:01:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T08:01:00","slug":"club-for-growth-attacks-udall-in-new-tv-ad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/club-for-growth-attacks-udall-in-new-tv-ad\/","title":{"rendered":"Club for Growth attacks Udall in new TV ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The right-wing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clubforgrowth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Club for Growth<\/a> is out with a new TV ad in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> attacking Democratic U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> and urging him to support increased domestic drilling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the 30-second ad:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object height=\"340\" width=\"420\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jrqqBAGVpR4&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jrqqBAGVpR4&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" height=\"340\" width=\"420\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad chastises Udall for having voted against offshore drilling while also voting \u201cfor more government power to take private property\u201d and \u201cto keep the Death Tax,\u201d according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clubforgrowth.net\/2008\/08\/new_ad_in_new_mexico.html\" target=\"_blank\">news release<\/a> from the group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFor Tom Udall, if it\u2019s private property, he thinks the government should take it; if someone dies, Tom Udall thinks the government should tax it; but if it\u2019s American oil, he thinks the government should leave it in the ground,\u201d the news release states. It\u2019s a line that\u2019s similar to one used in the TV ad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The group is spending $150,000 to run the ad for two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad doesn\u2019t mention Udall\u2019s election battle or his opponent, Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, but instead urges Udall to support a House bill to repeal provisions against offshore drilling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The group endorsed Pearce in the primary and <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/more-negative-ads-hit-airwaves-in.html\">spent $200,000 on an ad<\/a> attacking his opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> as a spendthrift liberal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, Pearce was endorsed over the weekend by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/default\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Chamber of Commerce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn the Senate, Steve Pearce will continue to be a champion for the people of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> and an invaluable leader on important business issues,\u201d said Bill Miller, the chamber\u2019s senior vice president and political director. \u201cIf elected, Pearce will continue to look out for businesses of all sizes. \u2026 On issues ranging from lowering taxes to reducing energy costs, <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:State>\u2019s businesses and workers have no better friend in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> than Steve Pearce.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The right-wing Club for Growth is out with a new TV ad in New Mexico attacking Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tom Udall and urging him to support increased domestic drilling.
