The House is in recess but might return to work around 3 p.m., the <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/view\/roundhouse-report1\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Independent<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There apparently aren\u2019t the votes in the Senate to defy the governor and adjourn sine die, so expect something to happen this session. But expect it to happen quickly. There are a lot of events around <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in the coming days that many lawmakers want to attend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> will be in Espa\u00f1ola on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> will be in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.nmsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Domenici Public Policy Conference<\/a> will be held Wednesday through Friday at <st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and will bring together a host of state and national elected officials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 The Democrats\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.demconvention.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">presidential nominating convention<\/a> starts Aug. 25 in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Denver<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> released his formal agenda for the session today. Here it is:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Health-care reform<\/span><br \/>\u2022 Reform insurance by requiring providers to hold down rising rates, ensure that premiums go toward health care and cover 50,000 uninsured children.<br \/>\u2022 Cut bureaucracy and eliminate waste by replacing multiple boards with a new Health Care Benefits Administration.<br \/>\u2022 Guarantee patient privacy by putting in place new standards to assure that medical records become electronic and remain private.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tax relief<\/span><br \/>\u2022 Cost-of-living tax rebate: $120 million<br \/>\u2022 Working-families tax credit: $7.8 million<br \/>\u2022 Tax holiday for the holidays: $2.5 million<br \/>\u2022 Increase child care assistance eligibility: $13.2 million<br \/>\u2022 Home heating assistance: $4 million<br \/>\u2022 Weatherization funding: $2 million<br \/>\u2022 School bus fuel assistance: $3.2 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Richardson also wants to spend $200 million on completing outstanding highway projects (with $50 million of that subject to available funding later in the year and next year), $3.6 million on bridge and road repair following recent flooding in Ruidoso, and $1.6 million to cover anticipated additional costs stemming from the November general election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Many lawmakers remain skeptical that there\u2019s money to do any of it. Stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By the way, the libertarian-leaning Rio Grande Foundation has unveiled a new Web site to help the public track bills and the votes of lawmakers.
