\"\"<\/a>There\u2019s speculation today that Gov. Bill Richardson<\/a> hasn\u2019t been added to the list of speakers at the Democrats\u2019 presidential nominating convention because he\u2019s among a handful of people still being considered for the vice-presidential spot on the ticket. <\/p>\n

Then again, maybe convention organizers just haven\u2019t figured out when to put him on the program.<\/p>\n

As a former presidential candidate and the most high-profile Hispanic Democrat in the nation, many argue that Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is an obvious convention speaker. But he\u2019s still not on the program for the convention being held in Denver from Aug. 25-28<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Denver Post<\/a> states in an article reporting on a list of speakers announced today that Richardson\u2019s absence from the list means he is \u201cpresumably still in the veepstakes\u201d along with others including Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine<\/a>, Sen. Evan Bayh<\/a> of Indiana, Sen. Joe Biden<\/a> of Delaware and former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

On the other hand, the Washington Post<\/a> is reporting that convention organizers say the list of speakers is not complete and Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> \u201cis likely to make an appearance.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Several news outlets are reporting that Barack Obama<\/a> will likely announce his running mate next week. In the meantime, his campaign has remained tight-lipped about the situation.<\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> also isn\u2019t going to talk about the situation, spokesman Pahl Shipley said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have no comment on anything related to the VP search,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Talk of Richardson as a possible Obama running mate had died down until recently<\/a>, when the Denver Post urged Obama to pick New Mexico\u2019s governor and other chatter about Richardson increased.<\/p>\n

Shortly after I posted this article, Democrats released the list of speakers for the night that the vice-presidential candidate is scheduled to speak — and they include Bayh, Biden and Richardson. As The Hill<\/a> reports, that raises more questions than it answers. Any or all of the three could still be under consideration for the VP spot on the ticket.
