{"id":3545,"date":"2008-08-07T15:51:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-07T21:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/on-energy-teague-says-he-brings-best-of-both-worlds\/"},"modified":"2008-08-07T15:51:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-07T21:51:00","slug":"on-energy-teague-says-he-brings-best-of-both-worlds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/on-energy-teague-says-he-brings-best-of-both-worlds\/","title":{"rendered":"On energy, Teague says he brings best of both worlds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SJtumBkcNiI\/AAAAAAAAGZk\/4oLUvZvxXQU\/s1600-h\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SJtumBkcNiI\/AAAAAAAAGZk\/4oLUvZvxXQU\/s200\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231896991656326690\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> calls himself a needed conduit between oil and gas and renewable energy in a new blog posting on the Web site of the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> publication <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.thehill.com\/2008\/08\/06\/congress-needs-conduit-between-oil-and-gas-and-renewable-energy-nm-dem-candidate-harry-teague\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Hill<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague, a <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> oilman, writes that Congress \u201cneeds someone who understands the oil and gas industry, and who is ready and able to work with alternative energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFor too long, our energy policy has been dictated by extremes, none of which are willing to work together to find a comprehensive solution to the mess we\u2019re in,\u201d Teague wrote. \u201cI want to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague pointed out that he built a company that employs more than 250 people in the oil industry. As a county commissioner, he worked to bring a nuclear enrichment facility to southeastern <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. And, he claimed, as a private citizen he has \u201cbeen hard at work to get solar and wind farms to southwest <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c<st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> needs that kind of experience. Experience that knows how to space out a well, and experience that realizes one day, that well will run dry. And it needs experience that knows how to do all this while respecting the environment,\u201d Teague wrote. \u201cBut most of all, our working families deserve it. They deserve an energy policy that will lessen our dependence on foreign oil, reduce the price at the pump and will again work for them. Until all sides come to the table, we\u2019ll just recycle the energy crisis of the 1970s and of 2008.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAnd that\u2019s one renewable we can\u2019t afford,\u201d Teague wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The campaign of Teague\u2019s Republican opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a>, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, Aug. 8, 9:20 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley spokesman Jim Pettit released this statement:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cLast night\u2019s candidate forum was a missed opportunity to learn Harry Teague\u2019s specific views on exploring for oil in ANWR, the outer continental shelf and in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>,\u201d Pettit said. \u201cInstead, the campaign posted comments to a Capitol Hill Web site that few New Mexicans will ever see.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate Harry Teague calls himself a needed conduit between oil and gas and renewable energy in a new blog posting on the Web site of the Washington publication The Hill.
