{"id":3538,"date":"2008-08-06T12:17:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-06T18:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/dems-continue-to-focus-on-tinsleys-santa-fe-home\/"},"modified":"2008-08-06T12:17:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-06T18:17:00","slug":"dems-continue-to-focus-on-tinsleys-santa-fe-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/08\/dems-continue-to-focus-on-tinsleys-santa-fe-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Dems continue to focus on Tinsley&#8217;s Santa Fe home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SJnr-R5UUhI\/AAAAAAAAGX8\/3PZveduHp-I\/s1600-h\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SJnr-R5UUhI\/AAAAAAAAGX8\/3PZveduHp-I\/s200\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231471897355768338\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Democrats will present Republican 2nd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a> with a mock <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> \u201cResident of the Month Award\u201d later today, the latest political stunt in their effort to highlight the home he owns there.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The award will be presented on the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Plaza<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> at 3:30 p.m. by Santa Fe Mayor David Coss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley owns a ranch in Capitan in the 2nd District and a home in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in the 3rd District. While Tinsley votes, pays taxes and says he spends most of his time at the ranch, Democrats, including his opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a>, have repeatedly accused him of not living in the district he is running to represent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Today\u2019s ceremony comes on the heels of the Tinsley campaign <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/view\/mailer-mixup\" target=\"_blank\">erroneously sending fund-raising letters<\/a> to the Democratic Party\u2019s state headquarters addressed to a number of high-profile Democrats late last week. This week, about 100 fund-raising letters from the Tinsley campaign have also arrived at a post office box owned by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>, and one fund-raising letter has arrived at the home of Teague.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEd Tinsley definitely got the attention of certain residents of Santa Fe with his fundraising letter campaign to New Mexico Democrats in the north,\u201d Josh Geise, executive director of the state Democratic Party, said in a news release announcing the mock Santa Fe award. \u201cEven though we won\u2019t be contributing to his campaign, we did want to show him we care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley, according to the release, \u201cwill be recognized for his outstanding service to <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city>, including his tenure on the board of the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Valle<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">National Park<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> and his abysmal employment practices as the head of the Tinsley Hospitality Group. Mayor Coss will be joined by County Clerk Valerie Espinoza, state Representative-elect Brian Egolf and County Commissioner Liz Stefanics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Egolf received two fund-raising letters from Tinsley, one sent to the Democratic headquarters and the other sent to Udall\u2019s address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley will also be presented, according to the news release, \u201cwith a basket of mementos from <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city> so he can carry a piece of <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city> with him as he visits southern <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> to campaign for Congress.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benrlujan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n<\/a>, the Democratic candidate for the 3rd District seat, won\u2019t be able to attend the ceremony, according to the news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBen regrets that he won\u2019t be able to attend the mayor\u2019s press conference to honor one of his constituents, Ed Tinsley,\u201d Mark Nicastre, Luj\u00e1n\u2019s communications director, said in the release. \u201cBen hopes to get Ed\u2019s support in November and looks forward to representing him in Congress. After all, his home in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is only about 15 minutes away from our campaign office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Tinsley campaign didn\u2019t have an immediate comment. Though Tinsley won\u2019t likely attend today\u2019s tongue-in-cheek ceremony, his restaurant business is located on the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Plaza<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> near the location of the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 2:50 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Jim Pettit, Tinsley&#8217;s communications director, called today\u2019s ceremony \u201ca silly political stunt that\u2019s wasting taxpayer resources\u201d &#8212; the salaries of the elected officials who are participating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019d rather engage with Teague on issues that matter, but he refuses to do that,\u201d Pettit said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats will present Republican 2nd Congressional District candidate Ed Tinsley with a mock Santa Fe \u201cResident of the Month Award\u201d later today, the latest political stunt in their effort to highlight the home he owns there.
