In addition to missing Monday&#8217;s meeting in Do\u00f1a Ana, he will miss two other community meetings this week.<\/p>\n<p>County staff will still be on hand for the public meetings Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the\u00a0Radium Springs Community Resource Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps?q=12060+Lindbeck+Road&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwibtLO9tfXTAhXIjFQKHSRqCNAQ_AUICigB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">12060 Lindbeck Road<\/a>, and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the\u00a0Hatch Community Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/837+NM-187,+Hatch,+NM+87937\/@32.6666776,-107.1640827,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x86dfac47f13df7bd:0x2f9ae9253b779c5b!8m2!3d32.6666731!4d-107.1618887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">837 Highway 187<\/a> (West Hall Street).<\/p>\n<p>Vasquez, who also missed Tuesday&#8217;s commission meeting, has been under scrutiny for a string of controversial votes\u00a0since taking office in January that included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/2017\/04\/11\/countys-fireworks-ordinance-amended\/100347586\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">allowing additional fireworks sales<\/a> that benefited a campaign contributor and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/county\/2017\/04\/25\/county-managers-contract-terminated\/100897810\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">firing the county manager<\/a>\u00a0without explaining that decision to the public.\u00a0At the time, Vasquez\u00a0told NMPolitics.net his vote to fire Julia Brown was &#8220;was based 100 percent on my desire to provide the best leadership for our county.&#8221; He\u00a0didn&#8217;t elaborate.<\/p>\n<p>After voting to fire Brown, Vasquez was inundated with criticism, and he deleted his Facebook account &#8212; one avenue people were using to communicate with him about his vote.<\/p>\n<p>Vasquez hasn&#8217;t responded to an email or text message from NMPolitics.net asking for more details about his family situation or why people weren&#8217;t informed he would miss Monday&#8217;s meeting until they showed up to it. The county released no additional information.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dozens of people showed up to Monday&#8217;s meeting. After staff announced that Vasquez wouldn&#8217;t be there, some walked out. Others booed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/haussamen\/posts\/10101487757768791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">On Facebook<\/a>, some people expressed sympathy for Vasquez.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A death in the family is a completely understandable reason to miss meetings,&#8221; Barbara Kim of Las Cruces wrote. &#8220;My condolences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Deaths are unpredictable,&#8221; Barbara Alvarez of Las Cruces wrote. &#8220;So I&#8217;m giving him a pass.
