\"\"<\/a>For anyone who wasn\u2019t paying attention, North Korea<\/st1:country-region> tested seven missiles earlier this week, one a long-range ballistic missile that could reach the Western United States<\/st1:place>. That missile failed, but it was apparently aimed at the waters near Hawaii<\/a>. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Had it not failed, the United States<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> would have tried to shoot it down<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The North apparently has at least one more missile<\/a> it could soon test. This is a nation with nukes.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Japan<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> wants the United Nations to threaten sanctions. President Bush talked today about diplomacy and the involvement of the United Nations. All of the sudden, our go-it-alone president is talking about cooperation and consensus.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

He has no choice. We\u2019re stretched too thin in Iraq<\/st1:country-region> and Afghanistan<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. Iran<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> continues to be a major problem. The Israelis and Palestinians are going at it.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

And North Korea<\/st1:country-region> is launching missiles in Hawaii<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Frankly, I don\u2019t trust the president\u2019s ability (in fact, I believe he has a distinct lack of ability) for diplomacy.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

It may be time to call in Bill Richardson.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it: Kim Jong II likes New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>\u2019s governor. The North Korean leader came to Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> a couple of years ago to talk, and it calmed a tense situation. He then invited Richardson<\/st1:city> to visit North Korea<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, and another calm ensued.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:city> says the North is acting out because, unlike rogue Iran<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, it\u2019s being ignored. Iran<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is being offered aid in exchange for the halting of its nuclear program. Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> says the North needs some attention, too.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Unlike Bush, Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is a gifted diplomat. It\u2019s time he gets involved. I happen to like Hawaii<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
