Unemployment is up nearly 1 percent and it is greatly impacting the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> families,\u201d Balderas said. \u201c\u2026 Increased gas costs, health insurance rising in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> and basically straight job losses for six months, it\u2019s greatly impacting the families in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/bp2.blogger.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SIDSKkOuQNI\/AAAAAAAAGNM\/Q4rXM1GVxuU\/s1600-h\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/bp2.blogger.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SIDSKkOuQNI\/AAAAAAAAGNM\/Q4rXM1GVxuU\/s200\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224406646715728082\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Balderas said Obama presents help in the short term with a $1,000 tax credit for working families and in the long term with a $50 billion economic-stimulus plan. By contrast, he said Republican presidential candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnmccain.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John McCain<\/a> \u201chas fallen a little short\u201d on solutions to help struggling New Mexicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Obama Economic Advisor Jason Furman, who joined Balderas on the call, cited <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s growing unemployment rate and said Obama has a vision to help the economy through investing in education, infrastructure, science, technology and creating green jobs. It won\u2019t cost more, Furman said, because Obama will cut government spending to pay for his economic-stimulus plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Balderas, 34 and the youngest Hispanic statewide elected official in the nation, is aiding the Obama campaign as it attempts to reach out to Hispanics.
