{"id":3459,"date":"2008-07-15T15:33:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-15T21:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/07\/new-udall-ad-proposes-ways-to-lower-gas-prices\/"},"modified":"2008-07-15T15:33:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-15T21:33:00","slug":"new-udall-ad-proposes-ways-to-lower-gas-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/07\/new-udall-ad-proposes-ways-to-lower-gas-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"New Udall ad proposes ways to lower gas prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Democratic U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> is out with a new television ad telling New Mexicans what he thinks can be done about high gas prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the 30-second spot:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/oHWDcD9OMkw&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/oHWDcD9OMkw&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"420\" height=\"340\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In the ad, Udall says the first thing that must be done to lower gas prices is to \u201cstop hedge-fund speculators from driving up the price of oil.\u201d Then, he says, the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:country-region> must \u201cget oil companies to build new, clean refineries in the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> to increase supply, or take away their tax breaks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m running for the U.S. Senate and I approve this message because record profits for big oil companies, while we pay record prices for gas, is wrong,\u201d Udall says at the end of the ad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cRising gas prices, and the additional associated costs, are crushing <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> citizens,\u201d Udall campaign manager Amanda Cooper said in a news release. \u201cTom Udall is proposing effective solutions that could help stabilize prices and bring relief to New Mexicans right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Udall\u2019s opponent, Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, responded to the ad in a news release by saying that Udall \u201ccontinues to ignore the calls coming from New Mexicans for more energy supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cInstead, he pushes policies that will drive the price of gas even higher, damage our economy and cost <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> jobs,\u201d Pearce said. \u201cNot surprisingly, this is exactly the agenda of the far-left environmental extremists who oppose any increase in domestic production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pearce advocates for increased drilling and increased use of nuclear energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tom Udall is out with a new television ad telling New Mexicans what he thinks can be done about high gas prices.
