{"id":34429,"date":"2011-12-15T00:41:59","date_gmt":"2011-12-15T07:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=34429"},"modified":"2011-12-15T00:44:28","modified_gmt":"2011-12-15T07:44:28","slug":"ag-will-seek-maximum-penalty-for-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/12\/ag-will-seek-maximum-penalty-for-block\/","title":{"rendered":"AG will seek maximum penalty for Block"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_31005\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 270px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Block-Jerome.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Block, Jerome\" width=\"270\" height=\"277\" class=\"size-full\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Public Regulation Commissioner Jerome Block Jr.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Because Jerome Block Jr. has failed to comply with a plea agreement stemming from several felony convictions, the attorney general will seek the maximum of 4.5 years in prison for the former Public Regulation Commission member.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/nmag.gov\/office\/Divisions\/EO\/kingbio.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Gary King<\/a> made the announcement a day after Block was arrested for a third time and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/12\/block-arrested-again-booted-from-drug-court-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">booted from a drug court program<\/a> for noncompliance.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Local%20News\/AG-to-seek-max-for-Block-Jr-\" target=\"_blank\">The Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cKing\u2019s office brokered the plea deal in September that called for Block, who has admitted he is addicted to painkillers, to plead to several felony offenses, resign from his $90,000-a-year elected job with the PRC and never run for office again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018On a personal level, (King) feels bad for Mr. Block because he wanted to see him clean himself up,\u2019 said Phil Sisneros, King\u2019s spokesman. \u2018But while he feels for him on a personal level, on a legal level, (Block) was given every opportunity and he wasn\u2019t able to take advantage of that.
