Obama, according to ABC, said healing is needed and he hoped <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> supporters who were present at the meeting would help him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIf women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it,\u201d Obama said, according to ABC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SGEWpkyvHnI\/AAAAAAAAGDw\/x7aUXmW87VY\/s1600-h\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SGEWpkyvHnI\/AAAAAAAAGDw\/x7aUXmW87VY\/s200\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5215474746978672242\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>At least one congresswoman at the meeting, Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\/watson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Watson<\/a>, D-Calif., took issue with Obama\u2019s comment, saying she found the words \u201cget over it\u201d to be dismissive, ABC reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wilson, a Republican, had much harsher words for Obama in a Monday conference call with reporters that was organized by the McCain campaign. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said she considers Obama\u2019s statement \u201cpatronizing and elitist, and that\u2019s exactly the kind of attitude that causes women to support John McCain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Asked to explain her comment about women supporting McCain when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/election_20082\/2008_presidential_election\/new_mexico\/election_2008_new_mexico_presidential_election\" target=\"_blank\">polls show Obama leading among women<\/a>, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said she\u2019s not a pollster. She said her response to Obama\u2019s comment was not intellectual but was a gut reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhat Obama said on Friday, it hit me right in the gut,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cI expect more from somebody who wants to be president of the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s the second time since <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> lost the U.S. Senate primary in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> on June 3 that she has spoken out about <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s loss. Earlier this month, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> penned a letter published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/wilson-says-sexism-contributed-to.html\">New York Times<\/a> stating that sexism was a contributing factor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe became a caricature: too smart, too strong, too assertive, too rational, too competent,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> wrote about <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. \u201cThink how the young Harry Potter and his male friends initially reacted to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hermione_Granger\" target=\"_blank\">Hermione Granger<\/a> and you get the idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Asked during Monday\u2019s conference call whether she supported <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city>\u2019s presidential bid, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said she did not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBut I understand how women feel when someone speaks to them that way,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t like being patronized or being spoken to in a condescending way and I think that\u2019s what (Obama) was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, Obama was in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> on Monday speaking to a small group of women.
