NBC News claims it has the list of potential vice presidential candidates that Barack Obama\u2019s<\/a> campaign is discussing this week with congressional Democrats. Gov. Bill Richardson<\/a> isn\u2019t on the list.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

According to NBC\u2019s Chuck Todd and Domenico Montanaro, writing in a Tuesday posting<\/a>, among those being considered is Ret. Gen. James Jones<\/a>, a former NATO supreme allied commander. Having him on the ticket could help Obama with the military and veterans — groups he is struggling to reach.<\/p>\n

The others on the list, according to NBC News, include Hillary Clinton<\/a>, John Kerry<\/a>, John Edwards<\/a>, Evan Bayh<\/a>, Kathleen Sebelius<\/a>, Ted Strickland<\/a>, Mark Warner<\/a>, Tim Kaine<\/a>, Jim Webb<\/a>, Bill Nelson<\/a>, Jack Reed<\/a>, Joe Biden<\/a>, Chris Dodd<\/a>, Tom Daschle<\/a> and Sam Nunn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll notice a few names NOT on this list (that\u2019s not my exclusion — hint hint),\u201d Todd wrote in the blog posting. \u201cBesides Jones, I\u2019m told the two other names that invited extended discussion were Biden and Strickland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is one prominent Democrat who many have argued should be considered by Obama for the VP spot on the ticket because he\u2019s Hispanic, a Western governor and has strong foreign-policy credentials that Obama lacks.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Take the list for what it\u2019s worth. Lists can change. But Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was considered for the vice presidential spot on the Democratic ticket in 2000 and 2004. He has an arguably higher profile this time, and the fact that his name isn\u2019t on the list — assuming NBC News has it right — is significant.<\/p>\n

During Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s failed presidential campaign, The Politico ran an article detailing Kerry\u2019s consideration of Richardson<\/st1:city> as his running mate in 2004, and reported that Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> might have skipped the full VP vetting.
